Hello. I am an electrical engineering student at the University of California, Davis. I have an insatiable lust for ideas on topics as wide-ranging as philosophy, economics, physics, and music theory. I have developed this blog as an intellectual excursion on ideas that I first began reading three years ago. I ally myself with Aristotle and consider Plato to be the primary originator of evil within this world.
To answer as to why I persist in engineering, as opposed to studying philosophy, which seems to be more relevant to this blog, I will point to three independent phenomena which have ruined philosophy. First, philosophic system-building or the attempt to integrate all knowledge into a single framework through which we understand reality has been discredited by the belief that the National Socialists and Communists were ideological purists. Since the 1960’s, philosophy has been thoroughly pragmatic. Secondly, the public perceives philosophy as an entirely outlandish “pie-in-the-sky” pursuit consisting of abstract ideas that have no relation to reality. Thirdly, the public has discarded objective reality in favor of mysticism. They have now adopted the belief that multiple realities exist, each varying depending upon who conceives it, and that ideas are futile because everything is subjective, so we should all just live bland lives of moderation. There is no hope in a lone grain attempting to fight against a wave that’s suffocating it. By studying engineering, I am, at the very least, able to adhere to objective reality while retaining the sanity of my mind.
